Private indoor pools are rare in central London. Where to find them, what to expect, and why a whole residence offers something a hotel spa cannot.
Why private pools are rare
Central London has very few houses with their own swimming pool. Most were created by excavating basement levels beneath period townhouses, so they tend to be found in Mayfair, Belgravia, Knightsbridge and Chelsea.
A pool that belongs to the household
The best hotel spas in London are exceptional, but they are shared spaces with fixed hours. A pool within a private residence is used only by the household, at any time: an early swim before a meeting, or a quiet evening with the children.
Many of these residences also have a sauna, gym or spa suite on the same floor, which effectively gives the household its own private wellness level.
